The V Foundation for Cancer Research will once again bring select local and national sports figures together to play golf with foursomes sponsored by local businesses in a scramble format at Valhalla Golf Club, home of the 2014 PGA Championship.
Events include The Challenge Cup at Fuzzy Zoeller’s Covered Bridge Golf Club on Sunday, August 7; the Pairings Party, hosted by Wild Eggs Westport Village will include live auction and raffle, also on Sunday, August 7; and the Cowgill-Valvano Wild Eggs Scramble Fore Cancer on Monday, August 8 at Valhalla Golf Club.
This is the 23rd year that Fred Cowgill has hosted a golf event in Louisville. The first 17 years he raised funds to benefit diabetes research, education and programs in honor of his father and sister. Fred’s father, Ralph Cowgill, also had pancreatic cancer and passed away in December 2009. After the 2010 event, Fred asked on old friend, Bob Valvano, who’s brother Jim passed away from cancer 24 years ago, to partner with him to raise funds to support cancer research, programs and services.
