Twenty-four years ago, I made a long-term commitment to develop a golf event that would raise significant dollars for diabetes research, public awareness and patient education to honor my father and sister, both affected by diabetes for many years. Thru 2010 we had raised over $1 million in the fight against diabetes in support of the American Diabetes Association and the Diabetes Exercise and Sports Association.
My father, Ralph, also had pancreatic cancer and passed away in December 2009. After the 2010 event, I asked on old friend, Bob Valvano, to partner with me to raise funds to support cancer research, programs and services in support of the work of both the American Cancer Society and the V Foundation for Cancer Research. We have raised over $450,000 in the past five years.
Bob and I will be hosting the event for the fifth year together. As you know, both of us have personal stakes in helping to find a cure and providing services to our community in the fight against cancer.
We are excited to announce that we are returning to Valhalla Golf Club on Monday, August 7. We will also continue the Challenge Cup at Covered Bridge Golf Club on Sunday, August 6 at Covered Bridge Golf Club for our 2016 event. We need you to join us in the fight against cancer. We have a lot planned for both days of our event. Check out all the details on this web site. I hope you can join us in August at Valhalla, home of the 2014 PGA Championship.

About The V Foundation for Cancer Research
The V Foundation for Cancer Research, formed by ESPN and Jim Valvano in 1993, is a relatively young organization that has a strong presence in the scientific community. The Foundation is guided by an elite, all-volunteer Scientific Advisory Board who recommends the research projects funded. This Board is comprised of top physicians and research scientists from prominent universities and cancer centers throughout the country. Working with this team of talented professionals, we are proud to carry out Jim’s vision for the future.
Jim’s dream of finding a cure for cancer is one shared by millions. Although we have not yet achieved this goal, every day we get a little bit closer and will continue to honor his inspiring words, “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!” ® Get involved in the fight! www.jimmyv.org
